The new moon on Jan. 30 began the year of the Wood Horse in the Chinese zodiac. The horse rules one of the 12-year animal cycles in the Chinese calendar, which begins on the second new moon after Winter Solstice. Each animal cycle is also associated with an element— wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. The year of the Wood Horse will run through Feb. 18, 2015.
Horse years are considered fortunate in China. The horse is magical, with supernatural powers, and is considered heroic and strong because battles were won in China thanks to the power and strength of the horse.
The year of the Wood Horse sees fast victories, unexpected adventure, and surprising romance. It is an excellent year for travel, and the more exotic, the better. Energy is high and production is rewarded. Decisive action brings victory. But you have to act fast in a horse year. Events move so quickly that you don’t want to gallop off in the wrong direction.
As any horse owner knows, horses have many contradictions in their character. They can be proud yet sweet-natured, arrogant yet modest. They want to belong, but have a need for independence. How compatible are you with the horse? If you are born in years of the rat, ox, rabbit, or monkey, you may face some challenges; less so if you are a dragon or rooster. Those born in the years of the tiger, snake, goat, dog, pig, and of course horse are most compatible with horse nature.
What resolutions have you made to improve your horsemanship this year? We suggest committing to ride more, expanding your knowledge and education, and becoming a member of the Corrales Horse and Mule People. Find out more at www.champnm.com
