White Buffalo is unique among the subjects painted by CaroleLaRoche, because she usually works in series. Only later did she learn that a sacred white buffalo calf had been born on a Texas ranch, and killed. Yet shamanistic interventions are hardly foreign to LaRoche, whose animal subjects are instantly recognizable for their glowing eyes. Her graphic, compelling, brightly colored acrylics, pastels, and monotypes have been an institution on Canyon Road since 1983, when she bought a one-way ticket Boston to Santa Fe after her children were grown.
