Party Cat is one in a series of humorous, quirky animals paintings by Melinda K. Hall, which generally come annotated with the artist’s commentary (but had to be edited out to create our cover). A graduate of New Mexico State University, Hall employs humor, metaphor, playfulness, and text along with paint and brushes to develop a visual journal that comments on many universal subjects. Her idiosyncratic take on food and animals, ordinary objects and situations once led someone to ask who had given her permission to paint this way—a comment that delighted her for the unspoken assumption that painters must follow rules. A 25-year resident of Santa Fe, Hall lives with her husband Gary and Border Collie, Roxy. She is represented in Santa Fe by Meyer East Gallery. Information: www.melinda-k-hall.com
