Warm up to riding season

With spring in the air, horse owners are waking up and looking for activities, and the “Horse Capital of New Mexico” has a wide variety of equestrian activities to choose from.

It is always enjoyable to participate in clinics, learn new things, and see various Corrales horse facilities. We recently attended a Western Dressage clinic held at Vista Hermosa Farm and led by Erlene Seybold-Smythe. This was a great opportunity to tune up both horse and horsemanship. It was also interesting to learn about the merging of Dressage and Western riding, and the growth of this new discipline.

During the clinic we practiced circles, moving the hindquarters, moving the shoulder, gathering and holding collection, smooth transitions, maintaining a line, and driving forward with impulsion. Erlene made the experience fun and entertaining while advancing everyone’s horsemanship.

The Corrales Bosque offers a place to enjoy a wide variety of equine experiences, whether it’s a relaxing trail ride enjoying the scenery, a schooling experience where you practice navigating trail obstacles, water, wildlife, bikers and hikers, or the thrill of trotting or cantering along the levy. If you prefer, you can drive your cart or buggy! Whatever your discipline, interest, or equine pastime, get out and explore our wonderful horse-friendly Village.

The Corrales Horse and Mule People aims to promote and preserve the equine lifestyle of Corrales. In February, CHAMP elected a new board of directors, and we look forward to the new events and activities they have planned for us.

Please join us at our monthly member meetings, held the last Wednesday of each month. And be sure to include the annual CHAMP Recreation Ride on your calendar, May 4, leaving from the Top Form Arena at 9 a.m. All CHAMP events can be found at the website, along with a membership application.
